…an excellent, fast-paced book…intriguing… [highlights] the sacrifice and service of Vietnam veterans …practical, rich details…believable and enjoyable…my children (who are in their teens and early twenties) have been begging to be next in line for it.
Stranded at Romson’s Lodge, by first-time author J.L. Callison, is an excellent, fast-paced book that you will not want to put down. The story line is intriguing and a bit mysterious, filled with plenty of adventure, interesting characters, and wholesome romance. You will not be disappointed with this novel.
One of the things that I love about this book is the Christian nature of the characters. Faced with hardships, difficulties, and frustrations, they choose to respond in patience, love, and joy. This is seen in the family relationships, work scenarios, and even recreational choices. Yes, they are human, and they struggle with their circumstances; however, through the power of Christ, they rise above those trials.
Another aspect of the book that I truly appreciate is the respect and admiration for military personnel that is taught. Specifically, the sacrifice and service of Vietnam veterans is highlighted. Never have I seen this example in a novel. In fact, I rarely hear anything about Vietnam veterans outside of their struggles to return to civilian life. The author presented these lessons in a tasteful, practical way, and I am thankful for it. In my opinion, all young people should learn more of our history from that time period. America’s military men and women deserve all of the respect and honor we can give them.
Lastly, Mr. Callison did a wonderful job of researching his story to include practical, rich details that make the plot both believable and enjoyable. He doesn’t go overboard with too many details, but gives just enough to help the reader understand and follow all that is happening.
I am so impressed with Stranded at Romson’s Lodge! As I have been reading it and commenting on it, my children (who are in their teens and early twenties) have been begging to be next in line for it. All in all, J.L. Callison’s first work is a fantastic one, and I will be looking for more to come!
I could not put it down! …suspenseful and thrilling… ideal for younger readers as well.
I received my advanced copy of Stranded at Romson’s Lodge by first time author J.L. Callison a few weeks ago. I wasn’t able to get right to it, but when the opportunity came to pick it up, I could not put it down. The entire book was read in two sittings. Mr. Callison’s talent for setting up several intertwined plot lines, while simultaneously developing characters leads the reader into a mesmerizing, can’t-put-it-down state. I also love the short, quick chapter style Mr. Callison employs in the book. The work is suspenseful, and thrilling, and it is a book ideal for younger readers as well. Great job by Mr. Callison, and I am very much looking forward to his next work.
Check out this awesome book I posted on my website.

Like Louis L’Amour…
JL Callison’s debut novel, Stranded at Romson’s Lodge (Morgan James Publishing) is a sweet gem of a work by a mature writer. His characters, plot, and style evoke Louis L’Amour’s legendary style and pacing. It is an excellent story within an inspirational tale any age can relish.

Thanks a lot, Mr. Callison…
…because of you, I’m rather exhausted today! If your book hadn’t been so interesting, I would have gone to sleep at a reasonable hour instead of continuing to read. 😉 In all seriousness….well done! I really enjoyed it! Neat story and super duper job on leaving the reader hanging from chapter to chapter. That’s one of my favorite writing styles to read. I also really, really wanted to cheat and skip to the end several times, but I resisted. 🙂 Thanks for writing a great book that I’m very pleased to own! Especially the author’s autograph and personal note.
I couldn’t wait!
Well, I couldn’t wait till Christmas. The book is great and just my kind of tale. I particularly like how you get straight to the story on page one. If there’s one thing that frustrates me, it’s three chapters of waffle before anything interesting happens. I also like the short, crisp chapters. (one of the reasons I like James Patterson).
Every page had my attention, not too many characters (I’m easily confused these days) and no lengthy and repeated descriptions of the landscape and which way the wind blows—but enough to set the scene. Perfect. Please keep writing, so one day I can own a collection of your books.
We both loved it!
Thank you again for the advance special copy of your wonderful book, Stranded at Romson’s Lodge. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! In addition, my 88-year-old Mom, who lives with us, read it and really liked it. It was fun to have a rivalry of sorts with her while we were both reading it! Yes, we had two bookmarks in the book! She loved the ending.
I really liked the character development and the ways you described the reactions and feelings of both sets of parents. I appreciate how your values and beliefs came through the book and that you did not shove these ideas down the reader’s throat. You did a fantastic job with this exciting story. I know I will be purchasing copies for family and friends this spring. Have a wonderful 2016—it will be very exciting and rewarding for you as you continue to soak in the praise and good comments from other readers of the book! Merry Christmas!
The day I received my copy, I started reading and got so caught up in the story, that I stayed up until 2:30 a.m.! “Stranded” is a captivating story. When I told J.L., he disavowed any responsibility for lost sleep!
